Hi, my name is Tengku Reza Affendi, the creator and web master of Vintage Malaya.
The idea of making this web site was conceived due to my long time fascination and passion for
architecture and also history. Naturally this spawned my interest towards historical architecture
and heritage architecture. This interest sort of culminated when I was pursuing my degree in the
city of Milwaukee in the United States. Milwaukee like Malaysia is rich with its architectural
heritage. Self tours of the city gave me the idea of capturing as many photos as possible of its old
buildings and houses. I did this not only because the heritage hunting trips around the city, gave
me such immense pleasure but also because I wanted to be able to enjoy them time and again,
once I returned to Malaysia. Having these pictures and admiring them, is likened to someone who
is able to recite his favourite poem again and again. I guess it is true when someone once said,
architecture is just like frozen poetry.
When I finally went back to Malaysia after completing my studies, I was ecstatic to find that in
Malaysia too we have a wealth of architectural or built heritage, definitely comparable to any
other country. In 2003, I managed to invest in a good digital SLR camera to eternally capture
these buildings and the shutter hasn't stopped since. I am glad to have taken shots of Bok House
in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur before its untimely demise. Now I have amassed close to 300
pictures from all over Malaysia.
The final impetus of creating this web site is chiefly for sharing the photos I have taken with all
who are interested and to take it upon myself in creating a showcase of the Malaysian heritage as
I have yet to find a web site solely dedicated to this.
